Fire disrupts Edmonton garage
A large fire next to Arriva London’s Edmonton garage on Saturday (April 24) meant that the entrance to the garage was closed and all its services severely disrupted.
The fire broke out in a consumables warehouse next to the Edmonton garage at about 10:20 on Saturday morning. Around 60 firefighters using 12 fire engines appeared to have the blaze under control on several occasions, only to see the fire flare up again. The area was made safe for the garage to reopen at 13:30 on Sunday afternoon.
The disruption meant that drivers and vehicles had to be relocated at the end of their shift which meant a number of staff having to work extra time to keep the services running.
Emergency bus parking was sourced in an industrial estate adjacent to nearby Lea Valley Garage where staff worked around the clock to get buses cleaned and fuelled ready for service.
Mick Gilroy, operating manager for controllers said: “All our staff worked tirelessly to keep the service running, its time like this when everyone from driver to shunter pulls together to get the problems solved.”
