Arriva London starts running routes 175 and 103
From Saturday 14th October, Arriva London began operating two new TfL contracts previously operated by another London operator; route 175 from Dagenham to North Romford and route 103 from Rainham to Chase Cross.
Route 175 operates with 16 double-deck vehicles from our Barking garage, with a twelve-minute frequency during the day. Route 103 operates from our Grays garage with 14 buses, with an eight-minute daytime frequency.
Sixty-seven drivers are required for the routes - some have transferred from the previous operator, others have transferred within Arriva London, and there are some new recruits too.
To see what the drivers think about the new contracts, we went out and spoke to a number of them, including driver Steven who came with the route from the previous operator. He explained how the drivers are enjoying the new opportunity for themselves and their customers:
"With Arriva London taking over the 103 route, they’ve managed to improve the customer experience by regulating the service more efficiently. I really love the route; I like it so much I came across from the previous operator when it changed. It runs from Rainham to Chase Cross, going through Romford, which is lovely. The customers are very friendly; I’ve built up relationships with a few of them. Working for Arriva, the people are proper friendly and everyone’s willing to help."
On the 175 route, driver Mohammed was equally happy with his situation:
"We’ve had the route running for a couple of weeks now. I’ve been on it since day one; it runs from Dagenham New Road to Hillrise Estate. The passengers are really friendly. It gets a bit busy down at Romford Market, especially on a Saturday and Sunday, but it’s a really good route."

We are always looking at ways to improve our green credentials and a recent initiative, part of our Destination Green programme across the business, at our North London Palmers Green garage is another illustration of this process.
Last summer, we were delighted to be awarded the contract from TfL to operate route W4 running from Oakthorpe Park Estate to Tottenham Ferry Lane estate, operating from Wood Green garage.
We are currently looking to recruit an AGS to cover Garage Supervisor (GS) duties primarily at Thornton Heath, but also at other Arriva London garages where required.
