Charity Marathon a great success for staff from Arriva London South garages

On Sunday 9th August 2009, staff from the six south London Arriva Garages joined in a charity marathon, to raise money for St.George's Hospital Baby Unit and Demelza Children's Hospice.

The event organised by Phil Robson from Norwood Garage, consisted of a team of five from each garage, walking from one garage to the next, carrying charity buckets to collect money on the way. The walkers were joined by two runners and five ladies from Norwood garage who completed the whole sixteen miles, visiting every garage en route.

The walk started from Arriva's Battersea Garage at 11:30 and finished at South Croydon, with the last walker crossing the line at 17:15. A marshal at each garage was on hand to check on the competitors and hand out chilled water.

Elaine Evans, a cleaner from South Croydon garage, walked the whole way raising the most from sponsorship with a total of £1,385.

The whole event raised over £2,500 for the two charities. Phil Robson said. "It was a great success and everyone should be proud of their efforts. Hopefully it will become an annual event."
