Arriva London are always happy to support charitable events with their staff and their vehicles wherever possible, and a recent Golden Family Fun Day in South London for Kingston-based Momentum children’s cancer charity was no exception.

Since 1978, the gold ribbon and gold light have been the symbols representing the world’s youngest cancer patients and honouring their courageous struggle against childhood cancer. The gold ribbon is now the official symbol of childhood cancer and is recognised and promoted by charities, organisations, families and friends all over the world.

Momentum held the Family Fun Day Picnic and the Golden Bus Trip for around a dozen families that it supports, who have children currently undergoing cancer treatment or who are in remission.

Despite the wet weather, it was a wonderful day which started with a picnic at East Molesey Cricket Club, where there was face-painting and a chance to meet and stroke some live owls! Then, after lunch, the families were transported by Arriva London’s historic gold Routemaster bus RM 6 (gold-themed in support of September's Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month campaign) to Hampton Court Palace where they continued to have a fun-filled day!

Momentum events organiser Kate Brookes said:

“We had a wonderful day in spite of the weather. The children had a brilliant time having their faces painted and stroking some beautiful live owls, and then being transported to Hampton Court Palace in a beautiful golden bus.

I can’t thank East Molesey Cricket Club enough for all their help on the day and for the use of their pavilion, and also enormous thanks to Arriva London for donating the use of their driver and Heritage Fleet Golden bus for the day, to transport the families on the trip. It was a huge celebration of all our brave children who have fought cancer and still continue to fight this illness. It was a very special and emotional day.”

Momentum children’s charity is encouraging everyone to ‘Go Gold’ in support of national Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this September.
