Recruitment Specialist


Location: Finsbury Park


  • To ensure we have the right candidates for all our roles across the business
  • To set up a best in class recruitment operation utilising the most appropriate and cost-effective sources of candidates and ensuring a slick candidate experience
  • Work with Arriva UK Bus and Arriva Group on key projects and best practice, including roll out of our new Avature portal + the new recruitment websites
  • Ensuring that our recruitment policy and practice operates fairly and in line with our equal opportunities commitments
  • Up-skilling our manager capability and deploying best practice resourcing techniques across London


  • Continue to develop direct recruitment channels for key & volume roles so we have a constant pipeline of potential recruits
  • Working with the Driver training school to ensure strong pipeline of applications
  • Link recruitment with manpower planning so sourcing of candidates can meet forthcoming projected demand
  • Create an on-line source of applications for key roles, (Drivers, Engineers etc.) by using LinkedIn, Twitter and other social media in line with current best practice
  • Head hunt appropriate candidates
  • Agree with hiring manager / HR team the best recruitment campaign approach up front, agreeing numbers, timescales, deliverables, salary etc
  • Train and coach line managers on how to interview and select candidates effectively
  • Advise on best approach to selection, assessment and testing for each role
  • Working with the wider HR team to work on continuous process improvement of our recruitment process
  • Ensure we are undertaking a fair process for internal and external recruitment, advising line managers where there are issues
  • Administer the recruitment process with the Central HR team
  • Own and develop a Recruitment policy and Procedure
  • Liaise with external advertising agencies to create copy
  • Ad-hoc Recruitment Projects
  • Responsible for handling budgets


  • Proven experience of managing a similar internal recruitment function, recruiting for both volume and single vacancies, from front line staff to senior manager level
  • Ability to have the right level of gravitas to deal with senior managers but also be happy to undertake administrative tasks
  • Very good at managing stakeholders in a matrix environment
  • Very strong and credible with ability to be a genuine team player
  • Maturity in approach and politically astute
  • Prioritise workload effectively, maintaining constant and open communications with candidates and colleagues
  • Experience of managing candidate management systems
  • Administering psychometric testing
