Arriva gives the green light for fewer emissions
Eco manager dashboard LEDFollowing on from the success in other parts of UK Bus, Arriva London has given the green light to fuel-saving technology which, together with changes in driving technique, will help cut exhaust emissions from its London bus fleet.
The EcoManager system gives drivers real-time feedback through a dashboard-mounted LED which runs from green through amber to red indicating fuel consumption and helping drivers adjust their driving style. The system, developed by Arriva together with technology supplier 21st Century Technology plc, also records engine performance data to provide feedback on driving style and fuel consumption.
Palmers Green garageArriva has developed a training programme in tandem with trials and development of the system which began at Arriva’s bus depot in Runcorn, Cheshire, in 2007. Training for new drivers includes advice on eco-driving techniques, avoiding harsh acceleration or braking whenever possible and improved anticipation of changes in road or traffic conditions to ensure optimum fuel efficiency.
The system is currently in use at Palmers Green, Beddington Farm, Wood Green, Tottenham and Lea Valley garages with the rest of the Arriva London sites coming on stream by the autumn.
