Route 123 celebrations big hit for local charity
Route 123 50th Anniversary CelebrationArriva London recently celebrated 50 years of route 123 when four Routemaster’s from their Heritage Fleet could be seen running along the route between Wood Green and Ilford.
Instead of collecting fares on the extra buses donations were given to the chosen charity of the day, Haven House children’s hospice.
All of the staff that worked on the day donated their wages which along with the collection on the buses raised over £750.
Enthusiasts and locals were also pleased to see the iconic buses out in service one more time with many having their own tales to tell about their love for the Routemaster. One satisfied passenger wrote to Arriva London to say “I had no idea that when I was waiting for a route 123 bus to take me to Wood Street library on Saturday morning, that my journey would be aboard one of these icons of the road.”
He went on to say “The Routemaster to me still is the finest bus ever built and was expertly crewed by your driver and conductor.”
Scale model released to celebrate 50 years of Route 123
The occasion was also marked with the production of a 1:76 scale model of RMC1464 Open Topper, which ran on the day.
