Walkers with kind hearts... and sore feet
The walkers take a breather during their 18-mile journey to raise funds for St Christopher's Hospice in Sydenam.Keen walkers from Croydon recently took on the challenge of an 18-mile walk for St Christopher’s Hospice in Sydenam.
The event, which has been running in different forms since 1992, was organised by commercial support assistant Lee Davis and took place 17 April.
Starting at Eastbourne, the walk tackled landmarks such as Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters before finishing in Berwick.
“The event goes back close to 20 years. It started when a now retired driver began raising funds for the hospice as one of our drivers was being cared for there,” said Lee.
“It’s amazing how it began with just one person raising money and has snowballed from there.”
Several hundred pounds was raised for St Christopher’s with the walk taking 10 hours, including breaks, to complete.
Despite many of the participants suffering from sore feet after the walk, Lee believes it was all worth it in the end.
“Everybody enjoyed themselves. It was a great day with really good company,” he said. “Of course there was also a serious underlying message, but it was loads of fun even with the blisters!”
