Arriva Heritage Fleet supports ‘Open City’ and ‘Maggie’s Cancer Centres’

Maggie's hiker Faheem ChowdhuryMaggie's hiker Faheem ChowdhuryThe following are just two of the great quotes we have received following Arriva’s weekend support for ‘Maggie’s London Night Hike’ and the ‘Open City’ weekend.

“The event was a great success and we’ve already had feedback from our hikers about how much they enjoyed the Routemaster at Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School! There was such a lovely atmosphere at this rest stop and the hikers loved it!”

“Just got home from the Arriva Heritage bus tour - we did the BT Tower, Royal College of Physicians, German Gymnasium, Apothecaries' Hall and 201 Broadgate - ferried between them all in the very Routemaster bus used in the Harry Potter film and the very last one to have been used in public service - fantastic day, thank you Arriva!”

RML 2360, our exhibition bus, was parked in the grounds of the Cardinal Vaughn Memorial school in Holland Park, assisting hikers to relax halfway through their 20 mile night hike around London’s major architectural attractions, to raise funds for Maggie’s cancer centres.

The special feature of this bus was that it had no conventional seats downstairs but a table, chairs and video viewing facilities, which played DVDs to the hikers as they rested.

winners of a competition for forty tickets, run through the Open City website, got a personalised tour of London’s great architectural places of interest, starting at the BT tower at 11.00. The route then followed the following schedule:

11.00 - 12.00: BT Tower
12.15 – 12.45: Royal College of Physicians
13.00 – 13.30: German Gymnasium + station
14.15 – 14.45: Apothecaries Hall
15.15 – 16.00: Bishopsgate & Broadgate

During the tour, the passengers where given access to all these venues and treated to a commentary by Joe Kerr, a lecturer at the RCA and a keen driver of Arriva’s Heritage Fleet Routemaster buses.

All Arriva buses, staff and services were donated freely to the event, as part of Arriva London's continuing support for the community.
