Arriva London helps out with travel training

An image without a specific captionArriva London has joined forces with Transport for London, Enfield and Edmonton Police and the London Borough of Enfield to help people with learning difficulties take full advantage of London’s public transport.

The emphasis is on giving people with learning difficulties the freedom to travel without fear and give them the confidence to use public transport on their own.

An image without a specific captionOnce a month an Arriva London double deck bus is taken onto the streets of Edmonton and Enfield to assist participants in the travel training scheme on topics such as using a bus pass correctly, how to avoid pickpockets, and also how to deal with different and difficult  situations when travelling.

An image without a specific captionEnfield operating manager, Gary Smith said: “It’s a great scheme as everyone gets involved – not only Arriva and the police but also children from the local schools as well.

“So far the scheme has been very well received and the meetings have all been really productive.

“We are hoping to take it to schools as well as trying to help people with carers and those who use wheelchairs or have other disabilities.”
