Controller Stories
Santos Latorre
Santos LatorreSantos Latorre became a controller for Arriva in 2004, having joined the company in 2003 as a trainee bus driver. After passing his driving test, he drove for 11 months and then saw a controllers job advertised and applied to see what the job involved, not thinking that he would be successful at his first attempt.
What he says he likes about the company is that they take you at face value. If you put in the work and you make the effort, then you can get where you want to. His one regret is that he didn’t do it earlier.
Santos is born and bread in London, the son of a Basque who came to the UK as a child to escape the Spanish Civil war. His dad became a baker, and as a boy he always helped him, but didn’t want to pursue it as a career.
An interest in Bruce Lee encouraged him to train and keep fit, and before joining Arriva he had worked in the security business for twenty five years.
He still maintains his interest in keeping fit, but now also includes Sea fishing as one of his main ways of relaxing.
A family orientated man , his advice to anyone wanting to join Arriva is join now, it’s a very good company to work for, if you work well, they look after you.
