Controller Stories
Michael Foster
Historian Michael Foster has always been interested in the development of bus transport in London – in fact he wrote a thesis on it for his masters degree – so now that he’s a controller for Arriva he’s in his element.
“My wife tells me she’s never seen me so enthusiastic about work,” says Michael, who, before joining the company in November 2008, was a history teacher for 11 years.
Now enjoying the challenging of thinking on his feet all the time, Michael says he’s still learning every day and his confidence is building.
“Changing careers was a difficult decision to make, but I know that I’ve made the right decision. My colleagues have been brilliant – very helpful indeed – and I’ve gained so much experience already that it feels like I’ve been doing the job for much longer than I have,” said Michael.
