Criteria

Buses are a very important part of the transport network in London.  As a bus driver you would be helping to transport millions of people around London, helping them get to school or work, visit family and friends, or even taking them to enjoy their social life.  Buses operate in London 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Bus drivers normally work five days in a week, including weekends, and work varying shifts.  When working varied shifts people enjoy the chance to be with their families, study, and relax among many other things.  Shift work can mean a lot of freedom and convenience.  We pay extra money for very early work, late work and weekend work.  After training as an Arriva London Bus Driver, you could earn up to £500 per week (with overtime).

We employ men and women of all ages to drive our buses and in Arriva London we have modern buses that are as easy to drive as a car – only bigger.  (See Driver Stories)

Don’t worry if you have never driven a bus before – we can train you.   We employ a team of professional instructors who have many years experience in helping people through the process of learning to drive a bus.  Once you have passed your test you will also gain a nationally recognised qualification in Customer Service, awarded by the Business & Technology Education Council (BTEC) as well as a PCV Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

Bus drivers are the key to our company’s success and we spend a lot of time selecting the right people to work for us.  If you would like to work for Arriva London as a bus driver you must have

  • a full UK or EC driving licence
  • two years driving experience in the UK
  • no more than 3 points on your licence
  • no criminal convictions

You should be

  • a confident person who enjoys working and dealing with people
  • an excellent driver - you must drive regularly in varied environments and at different times of the day
  • enthusiastic and flexible in your approach to work

Many employees start working with us as bus drivers and decide they would like to develop their career further.  There are many other areas of employment within Arriva London such as Driving Instructor, Service Controller, and management and administrative support roles.
