Bus Mechanic
There are two entry levels for bus mechanics at Arriva London, Garage Trainee, for candidates with very little or no experience and Trainee Bus Mechanic, for those with two years or more mechanical experience.
Garage Trainee
We normally recruit candidates from full time education with no experience in vehicle maintenance, although a basic education and interest in mechanics is preferable.
The Garage Trainee course is a two year course with one day per week at college. Four days per week are spent at an Arriva London garage under the guidance and supervision of a fully qualified engineer, (Mentor). There is also an in house 18 week bus mechanics course.
On successful completion of the training, candidates will gain a Technical Certificate at level 2 and NVQ level 2 in Heavy Vehicle Repair.
Candidates are also expected to pass a full PCV driver training course.
Trainee Bus Mechanic
Candidates for the role of Trainee Bus Mechanic must have a minimum of two years experience in mechanical maintenance and a full UK Driving License with no more than three points. A driving assessment is usually carried out at the interview stage.
Depending on the candidates experience will depend on the amount of training given. Our experienced training department will assess and determine an individuals needs. Normally the training will consist of 4 to 5 days of induction and health and safety instruction, followed by our in house 18 week bus mechanics course. Following this there is a fork truck driving course.
All candidates are also expected to pass a full PCV driver training course.
