Ready for the off!Ready for the off! This week, twenty-five Arriva London colleagues joined together to walk the 38 bus route to celebrate the routes Centenary, and help raise essential funds for Maggie’s the cancer charity, whom Arriva London have chosen to support as their main charity in 2012.

The group started at Clapton Pond at around 11.30, and despite temperatures in the high twenties, set a very good pace, but one that all could manage.

They planned to stop at Angel Islington, and after a rest and some cooling refreshments, continued on the walk at around 13.00.

You never know who you're going to meet in Piccadilly Circus. You never know who you're going to meet in Piccadilly Circus.Asked what had inspired her to do the walk, Carolyn Smee, a Deputy Operating Manager at Arriva’s Wood Green garage said “It’s a good charity, we can’t do enough for it” and Alan Southgate, the Operating Manager at Arriva’s Tottenham garage, said

“It’s a good cause. I think everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, and it’s a good bit of team bonding as well, and it’s a bit warm.”

Still all together at Piccadilly Circus, the team stopped for a quick team photograph before moving onto the last leg down to Victoria.

Resting your feet, at last!Resting your feet, at last! They finished the walk at the 38 bus stand at Victoria Station, having covered the 7½ miles in around two and three quarter hours. A welcome cool celebratory drink was called for, with the team estimating that they had raised at least £2,000 for Maggie’s, with more donations still to come in.

The final word needs to go to Helen Milligan, one of Arriva London’s General Managers (Operating), who organised the team to do the walk. “It’s a great feeling to finish it. I’ve got sore feet, but a great sense of achievement. It’s great everybody came out to do it today. Great cause! If you’re thinking of doing it, do it!"
