Caring controllers remain calm and professional

Dave Mason and Younes Afassi, both controllers at Thornton Heath, went to help a Metrobus driver who had collapsed on the floor outside of his cab.

A member of the public had knocked at the garage, calling for help, after noticing the driver one morning in late September around 05:00.

The controllers quickly assessed the situation, with Dave calling for an ambulance whilst Younes tried to keep the driver awake and responsive.

“I’ve actually had a passenger collapse before so it was not the first time I had been in that kind of situation,” said Dave.

“You don’t really think about what is happening too much at the time, you just get in there and try to be as much help as you possibly can.”

Younes also says what happened was not unusual and that the best thing to do when faced with a similar situation is just to keep calm.

“He was breathing okay when we found him which was definitely a relief,” said Younes.
“I am pleased to say that everything turned out alright in the end.”
