Morale boosted by creature comforts

David Crane with his mum, LyndaDavid Crane with his mum, LyndaWood Green garage supervisor Lynda and driver Peter supported their son, David, during his six month tour of Afghanistan, serving with the Royal Artillery, by sending him packages filled with sweets, coffee, toiletries and other goodies that he would not necessarily have had access to.

Peter CranePeter CraneLynda and Peter sent parcels to other soldiers too, through the "Adopt a Squaddie" campaign, which allows anyone to send parcels to troops serving abroad to help brighten up their day.

A number of other Arriva London colleagues have also become involved in the campaign.

“I started doing it for my son when he was in Afghanistan, which is how I heard about it originally,” said Lynda.

“All you have to do is register on the website and they give you the details of who to send your parcel to.

“I think it’s a brilliant idea as some of the boys and girls serving out there don’t have family back home, so it is great to give them some support.

“My son said that when his colleagues received packages they were really pleased to know that people back home cared and were thinking of them.”
