Saturday 16th June will see the celebrations commence with the display of three Arriva Heritage Fleet Routemaster buses on the Piazza in London’s Covent Garden; RML 901, RMC 1464 and RM 5.

RM 5RM 5RML 901 and RMC 1464 will carry advertising encouraging everyone to celebrate 100 years of route 38, by walking the route and collecting vital funds for Maggie’s cancer charity, Arriva London’s charity partner for 2012.

Visitors to the celebration will be encouraged to register to walk the 38, and by so doing will be entered in to a competition to win the services of an Arriva Heritage Fleet Routemaster bus for a day.

A celebration cake has been produced and will be cut following the launch announcement at 12.30.

Walkers on route 38 will also be making a slight diversion to join the celebration around midday.

On Sunday the 17th, the display buses from the Piazza will be out on route 38 (download the schedule of events). Passengers will be excused their fare, but asked if they would like to make a donation to Maggie’s for their ride.

Also on the route will be a K-type 38 bus, which will make one round trip starting from Victoria at 11.00.  As this is a unique historic vehicle, no fee paying passengers will be carried.

Two guest buses, RTL 139 and RTW 467, will also be in service; they will be what is called in the bus industry ‘working to instruction’.  This basically means they will not be set to any timetable.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to our Route 38 Centenary celebrations, and to assisting you in understanding more about the history of route 38, whilst also giving your vital support to Maggie’s cancer charity.
