Arriva London volunteers walk for charity in the Lord Mayor’s Show 2014
Only occasionally does an opportunity come along to see the very best in people, and that opportunity came last Saturday at the Lord Mayor’s Show, where over 7,000 people paraded through the streets of the City of London to celebrate their charitable works and the inauguration of the new Lord Mayor.
Fifty-five of those people were from Arriva London, and all of them were there in recognition of their great and continued efforts to raise money for their chosen charities, with the help of Arriva and Payroll Giving.
Each year Arriva London looks at ways of giving back to the community it serves, and for this year chose to focus their celebrations for TfL’s ‘2014 The Year of The Bus’ activities through its employees, and the great work they do for their local communities and charities by promoting and supporting Payroll Giving. Arriva administers the scheme on behalf of its staff but also runs a draw every quarter and gives cash sums to those in the scheme to add to their donations.
Arriva’s Payroll Givers were also entered into a draw to have the privilege of being part of the Lord Mayor’s parade and accompanying the Arriva Heritage Fleet iconic Routemaster bus through the streets of the City.
The bus displayed ads for Payroll Giving, which featured the very same fundraisers walking with the bus, all of whom had volunteered to be part of this great campaign. A replica scale model of the bus has been commissioned. If you would like to buy one, they are available from our shop.

The ethos behind Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet is to maintain a moving history of London, and to this effect buses from the fleet are often invited to prestigious days out to continue that theme.
Arriva London has recently been awarded the prestigious Platinum Award for Payroll Giving by the Charities Aid Foundation. The award is given to those organisations who have achieved twenty percent or more of their staff giving to charity through a Payroll Giving scheme.
There was a multitude of applications this year and the quality of entries was very high. The selection process for the judges was very difficult, but three Arriva London employees were successful.
At Arriva London we are always proud and amazed at the generosity and enthusiasm of our staff to get involved and give to charity, and none more so than three of our bus drivers, who recently completed a 100 kilometre cycle ride for three cancer charities.
The famous Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, which has a station at Dungeness, has been using Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet RML 2360 Routemaster bus as a temporary ticket office and shop.
Youth Travel Ambassadors is a London-wide programme delivered in partnership with borough councils and Transport for London to increase active travel, improve behaviour and increase safety for the 11-18 age group.
