Two prestigious awards for Arriva London
Arriva London’s innovative campaign, promoting Payroll Giving throughout its workforce, was recognised at the Institute of Fundraising’s National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards held at the Treasury last week, where Arriva London won the coveted Best Campaign for Large Employer award and the Best Overall Scheme award.
Mervi Slade of Save the Children, who chaired the judging panel, said: “Once again we were delighted to have received so many entries for this year’s Awards, recognising both the individuals and suppliers that have contributed so much to Payroll Giving promotions throughout the past year.
These awards have been designed to celebrate that excellence and the outstanding achievements seen by employers in supporting Payroll Giving."
The Ceremony, which took place at HM Treasury, in Horse Guards Road, was attended by Rob Wilson the Minister for Civil Society, and David Gauke, Financial Secretary to the Treasury along with other government representatives and managers of the Payroll Giving scheme.
Before 2014, Arriva had not had a focused Payroll Giving campaign yet found that many of their employees were already engaging in the scheme.
As a further initiative to supporting TfL’s ‘Year of the Bus’ ,which looks at recognising the enormous contribution Arriva’s staff make to the smooth running of London’s transport system, Arriva focused on building a charitable giving campaign to encourage other staff members to get involved. A poster and video campaign was created, allowing those already giving through the campaign to tell their stories.
Through this approach the contributions to charity have increased by thirty two percent in just six months, and the campaign continues building.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Michelle Salter and Donna Prendergast from the Sickle Cell Society to our Brixton garage, to meet with some of the givers and also record a few words about what the Payroll Givers' generosity means to their charity.
We have the ambition to become the mobility partner of choice, preferred by our passengers, partners and clients. Having a diverse, talented and motivated workforce is key to achieving that ambition.
We are always looking at ways to improve our green credentials and a recent initiative, part of our Destination Green programme across the business, at our North London Palmers Green garage is another illustration of this process.
Last summer, we were delighted to be awarded the contract from TfL to operate route W4 running from Oakthorpe Park Estate to Tottenham Ferry Lane estate, operating from Wood Green garage.
As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
Over the past few months we have been working with TfL, conducting Accessibility Awareness forums at our garages.
