Festive and New Year celebrations with Arriva’s Heritage Fleet
To start the year in a positive way and finish off the celebrations for the Year of the Bus, Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet RMC 1464 ‘The Open Topper’ was invited to join the New Year’s Day celebration parade through the streets of London. Mayor’s from various London Boroughs were riding on the top deck and gave a hearty greeting to all of the crowds.
Also in the parade accompanying this prime example of London’s Transport History, was one of Arriva’s most modern buses, the all electric ‘emission free’ single deck Optare MetroCity bus, which together with an identical vehicle have been running a test service in conjunction with TfL on route 312 between South Croydon and Norwood Junction.
These new electric buses are the latest addition to Europe’s greenest bus fleet and will increase TfL’s and Arriva London’s experience and understanding of this relatively new technology.
The celebrations over the festive period were further enhanced with the use of another of The Heritage Fleet RML 901 for the wedding of Mr and Mrs Watson-Horsewood, who had booked the bus to transport their guests to their wedding reception.

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all your help with supplying a Routemaster for our wedding. It was a fabulous experience and everyone is still talking about it. I had kept the bus a surprise from our guests and their faces said it all as they rounded the corner and saw it waiting for them. Our Bus crew were very friendly and professional and we couldn't have asked for more”

Last summer, we were delighted to be awarded the contract from TfL to operate route W4 running from Oakthorpe Park Estate to Tottenham Ferry Lane estate, operating from Wood Green garage.
As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
Over the past few months we have been working with TfL, conducting Accessibility Awareness forums at our garages.
Doing the right thing, one of our four brand values, is what we have been doing for the last six years by encouraging all of our employees to give to their favourite charities through our Payroll Giving scheme - during this time, they have given more than £1,000,000 pounds to over 160 charities.
