Arriva London’s Payroll Giving Golden Team to feature in the 800th Lord Mayor’s Show
Preparations are well under way at Arriva London for their display entry in this year’s 800th Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday the 14th November. The Arriva London theme this year is to celebrate the enormous contribution their staff make to charities through the Payroll Giving scheme.
Last year’s efforts gained them a prestigious Payroll Giving Gold award, and so this year, fifty members of that Gold Team will be marching with the Arriva London Heritage Fleet’s open top historic Routemaster bus RMC 1464, displaying the charities they support and encouraging their colleagues and the public to get involved as well.
Members of the team like Steve and Sharon, Elise and Peter, Jayantilal and Olakunle, all Arriva employees, all Payroll Givers, but all from different backgrounds and beliefs who won, through a ballot, the opportunity to be in the Lord Mayor’s Show procession, coming together in celebration of their common goal, giving to others.
As Elise says in praise of Payroll Giving :- “I think payroll giving is a wonderful idea. If I can help vulnerable children, that’s the best thing I can do.”
And Steve reflects on his reasons for getting involved:- “I have a family member who’s a prostate cancer survivor. Payroll giving gives us the opportunity to give back to charities that really need our help.”
Arriva London, together with Payroll Giving in Action, is currently running a promotional campaign to encourage more employees to give through the scheme, with the aim next year to hopefully win a Payroll Giving Platinum award.

Look out for our historic Heritage Fleet open top bus, No. 81 in the parade, but most important of all, give a wave and a cheer to our incredibly generous Arriva London Payroll Giving Golden Team.

As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
Over the past few months we have been working with TfL, conducting Accessibility Awareness forums at our garages.
Doing the right thing, one of our four brand values, is what we have been doing for the last six years by encouraging all of our employees to give to their favourite charities through our Payroll Giving scheme - during this time, they have given more than £1,000,000 pounds to over 160 charities.
Going to school is something we all had to do, but going to school with a red London double-decker bus, and letting four classes from year one come on board to ask questions about the bus, is a privilege we experienced this week at Newbury Park Primary School in North East London.
Last June, Arriva London was delighted to have been re-awarded the TfL contract to run route W6 (Edmonton Green – Southgate Station) for a further five years, starting in January 2018 with brand new buses.
As the festive season approaches, we all look forward to the good-will of giving and receiving, and this was truly illustrated last week when members of our staff made a tour of London, on our open top bus, to meet representatives of some of their charities they give to through their Payroll Giving and celebrate #GivingTuesday.
