New Routemaster bus on Arriva London’s 24 hour route 149
Since the introduction of the first New Routemaster buses on its route 38 in February 2012, Arriva London has been preparing for many more to appear on other routes it operates.
May 2015 saw these iconic buses commence their life on route 73 (Stoke Newington to Victoria) and today it was the turn of Tottenham garage's route 149, running from Edmonton Green to London Bridge, where it will see a total of 38 buses introduced to the route over the coming weeks.
Having made their way from Wrightbus in Northern Ireland, to Arriva’s London's Edmonton garage, they received their pre-service inspection checks and were prepared for going into service.
Arriva London now operates the New Routemaster on four of its routes - 38 (Clapton Pond to Victoria), 137 (Streatham Hill to Oxford Circus), 73 and now route 149.
Tottenham driver Robert Stephen, who was the first to drive the New Routemaster on route 149 said, “I am so excited to be the first to drive this bus in service. This is a nice bus; it is very smooth and is comfortable to drive. It's my baby for the day. I am sure our customers will enjoy travelling on them."
Another driver, Ali Haider, on arriving at London Bridge said, “That was brilliant, what a lovely bus.”
“This is a comfortable bus”, said Clive Witter, “The drivers’ cab area is very nice and it gives such a good ride to our passengers.”
Ceylan Nourettin – “The brakes are nice and it’s a very smooth bus. Our passengers will enjoy travelling on this vehicle.”

Last summer, we were delighted to be awarded the contract from TfL to operate route W4 running from Oakthorpe Park Estate to Tottenham Ferry Lane estate, operating from Wood Green garage.
As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
Over the past few months we have been working with TfL, conducting Accessibility Awareness forums at our garages.
Doing the right thing, one of our four brand values, is what we have been doing for the last six years by encouraging all of our employees to give to their favourite charities through our Payroll Giving scheme - during this time, they have given more than £1,000,000 pounds to over 160 charities.
Going to school is something we all had to do, but going to school with a red London double-decker bus, and letting four classes from year one come on board to ask questions about the bus, is a privilege we experienced this week at Newbury Park Primary School in North East London.
Last June, Arriva London was delighted to have been re-awarded the TfL contract to run route W6 (Edmonton Green – Southgate Station) for a further five years, starting in January 2018 with brand new buses.
