Arriva London’s Payroll Giving Golden Team celebrate in the 800th Lord Mayor’s Show
Arriva London’s Payroll Giving team were proud to be part of the 800th Lord Mayor’s Show last Saturday, and Arriva London are proud of all of the great volunteers who turned out, in the pouring rain, to give even more in the parade around the City.
The Arriva London theme this year was to celebrate the enormous contribution staff make to charities through the Payroll Giving scheme.
Last year’s efforts had gained them a prestigious Payroll Giving Gold award, and so this year forty members of that Gold Team marched with the Arriva London Heritage Fleet’s open top historic Routemaster bus RMC 1464, to celebrate that award and continue displaying their kindness.
Members of the team like Elise and Peter, Jayantilal, Steve and Sharon, all Arriva employees, all Payroll Givers, but all from different backgrounds and beliefs who won, through a ballot, the opportunity to be in the Lord Mayor’s Show procession, coming together in celebration of their common goal, giving to others.
The bus displayed graphics for Payroll Giving which featured the very same fundraisers walking with the bus, and their comments as to why they had volunteered to be part of this great campaign.
Steve Sobers said; “I have a family member who’s a prostate cancer survivor. Payroll Giving gives us the opportunity to give back to charities that really need our help. Also the NSPCC as I’ve got two children and they are very dear to my heart”.
Elise Lawrence explained her thoughts; “I think Payroll Giving is a wonderful idea. If I can help vulnerable children, that’s the best thing I can do. My money goes to Sierra Leone, for children under five, and the great thing about Payroll Giving is I could make that choice”.
Peter Middleton, told his story; “I chose to give to Barnardos. Our school was integrated with a local ‘Home’; when those kids went home they didn’t have a family life to go to like me. So when I had the chance of giving I took the chance of giving to them”.
And Jayantilal Chohan commented on why he gives; “I had a friend of mine recently die of cancer, so I am happy to give through the Payroll Giving. I also support the RSPCA, Cancer Research and Barnardos by giving this way it’s so easy and you don’t really notice it”.
Also Sharon Barry gave her reasons; “I chose the Stroke association as my father had three strokes. I feel they need more help in research to stop it. When he had the strokes there was very little known about it, so I feel they need more funding to find a cure”.
Arriva London, together with Payroll Giving in Action, is currently running a new promotional campaign to encourage more employees to give through the scheme, with the aim next year to hopefully win a Payroll Giving Platinum award.
We hope you were at the Lord Mayor’s Show and saw the fantastic parade, celebrating the new Lord Mayor’s appointment, but also we hope you saw our incredibly generous Arriva London Payroll Giving Golden Team, as they handed out gifts to children and families along the route, reflecting the very nature of their generosity, always giving.

On Saturday 26th August, Arriva London was pleased to support the eighth annual bus service to the normally deserted Wiltshire village of Imber, situated in the middle of Salisbury Plain military training area.
As part of our continuous ongoing staff training and development programme, this week, together with colleagues from TfL, we conducted a Hello London Accessibility Forum at our Brixton garage, and invited our drivers to participate in the discussion.
