Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet bus helps multiple Olympic Gold Medal Winner switch on Marlow’s Christmas Lights
Christmas comes but once a year but when it does it brings good cheer; and that’s exactly what Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet open top bus did when it helped Marlow Town Council turn on the town’s Christmas lights last Thursday.
The bus, positioned in the middle of Marlow High Street, was the ideal platform for the switching on ceremony, which was carried out by five times Olympic gold medal winner and local Marlow boy, Sir Steve Redgrave.
Sir Steve explained how being on the open top bus reminded him of his victory celebrations, returning to Marlow on an open top bus to show everyone his Olympic medals.
He also said how really nice it is to be part of the Marlow community as were his forebears, and that it was a huge honour to be asked to turn on the Christmas lights this year.
Accompanied by a massive countdown from the crowd packing the high street, which had been closed to traffic for the occasion, Steve pushed the plunger to switch on and reveal, to enormous cheers, the Christmas light display.
Arriva are proud to be invited to help Marlow and Sir Steve with the start to this festive season, and wish them and the people of Marlow all the compliments of the season.

This year’s Lord Mayor’s Show, on 11th November, was an amazing cause for celebration, not only to welcome in the new Lord Mayor, but also to celebrate another year of Platinum giving by our wonderfully generous Payroll Givers.
Route 175 operates with 16 double-deck vehicles from our Barking garage, with a twelve-minute frequency during the day. Route 103 operates from our Grays garage with 14 buses, with an eight-minute daytime frequency.
Preparations are complete for our display entry in this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday. The Arriva London theme again this year is to celebrate the enormous contribution our staff make to charities through the Payroll Giving scheme. With over 1,000 staff supporting over 160 charities every week, and over £1,000,000 having been given in the last five years.
The buses, which were recently on display on the South Bank opposite the Houses of Parliament, will be seen throughout London and the City until November 12th, as a mark of respect for the sacrifices made by London’s service men and women, past and present.
Arriva London are proud, once again, to be the providers of the mode of transport to deliver London’s most original gastronomic road trip - the London restaurant festival’s Champagne Gourmet Odyssey.
Last week, Arriva London were invited to take part in the Older People’s Celebration Week across Barking and Dagenham.
