Arriva London’s #GivingTuesday London tour bus brings charities and givers together
There is no better way to communicate your appreciation of someone’s care and giving, than to do it face to face, and this is exactly what happened on #GivingTuesday, when representatives of many charities joined the Arriva London #GivingTuesday tour bus, to meet and thank employees from Arriva London for their generosity in giving to these charities every single week, through Payroll Giving.
The charities attending included Together for Animals, Bowel & Cancer Research, Save the Children, Cancer Research UK, Help for Heroes, Great Ormond Street Hospital Childrens’ charity and Centrepoint.
Each representative had their own message to tell, but all were there to explain some of their work but more rewardingly for the givers, to thank them for their contributions.
Max from Cancer Research UK is himself a cancer survivor, having had bone marrow transplants, he wanted to come along to the bus tour to express his gratitude for the contributions made by the Arriva Payroll givers, he explained:-
“Every penny counts in terms of Payroll Giving, I know that since Arriva and Cancer Research UK have partnered over £100,000 has been raised. I think my treatment would have been different without people like the Payroll Givers; without that money people like me might not be here today to talk about their survival stories”.
Vikki representing Centrepoint told us what it means to them:
“Centrepoint is a charity that supports people living in homelessness aged 16 to 25. Over the last four years rough sleepers in London have doubled, but it’s not just about giving a young person a bed for the night, these people need long term support. Somebody who gives long term really really helps make sure that we can continue to give those young people that support, so Payroll Givers are of huge value to us.
I want to say a huge thank you from Centrepoint it’s making a huge difference.”
Mervi Slade from Save the Children emphasised how important regular giving is for charities.
“It really is the regular income that allows us to plan forward and also react, hopefully as quickly as possible, when something unexpected happens in the World”
The success of the day was not only due to the number of charities that attended, but also because of the overall goodwill that came from the day.
Nik Partou, Arriva London’s Communication Support manager, was full of praise for the way the relationship between givers and the charities was enhanced. He’s looking to the future, with a plan to encourage more of the Arriva London staff to get involved.
“It was a really great bus tour, expressing all the good things about our staff's generosity, and what effect it has on so many people. I would like to say an enormous thank you to all of the charities that came along, both big and small, the representatives of CAF and Payroll Giving and also our staff the givers, who made it such a great day.
For 2016, Arriva London will be encouraging everyone in the business to make a contribution through the Payroll Giving scheme so that in a year’s time, we can be celebrating even greater Payroll Giving success, and even greater contributions to these charities.”

As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
Over the past few months we have been working with TfL, conducting Accessibility Awareness forums at our garages.
Doing the right thing, one of our four brand values, is what we have been doing for the last six years by encouraging all of our employees to give to their favourite charities through our Payroll Giving scheme - during this time, they have given more than £1,000,000 pounds to over 160 charities.
