Arriva London Engineering Apprenticeship opportunities
Arriva London is one of the largest bus operators in London, and we are currently looking for fifteen Engineering apprentices to learn how to fix and maintain our buses. We are committed to training and developing the talent of tomorrow, and we have great career opportunities for suitable candidates. Our apprenticeships are for 4 years with core training in: Mechanics and Electrics and Accident Repair and Bodywork.
As part of National Apprentice week we will be running three apprentice information sessions on Friday 18th March 2016, at our Edmonton Engineering Training Academy, starting at 10:00, 12:00 and 14:00.
This is an opportunity for you to come in and discuss our apprenticeship scheme, meet the Engineering team, including some of our current apprentices, have a tour of the garage, ask questions, and register your interest with us.
We provide a well-established, structured training programme, a mentor, regular reviews, lots of support and training in several bus garages to maximise what you can learn, with people who care and want our apprentices to succeed. During your training, you will have the opportunity to achieve an NVQ Level 3, an IRTEC SMT, Technical Certificate Level 3 and a PCV (bus driving) licence.
Your training will take place at our training academies in Edmonton & Watford, along with on the job practical experience in our bus garages, which are situated:
You will earn a competitive salary, including a free Oyster travel card and free travel on all Arriva UK buses. After 3 months, you can apply for a second pass for a member of your family that resides at the same address as you.
After successful completion of the apprenticeship scheme, we may offer you a permanent position with Arriva London.
What we require from you:
- Some mechanical skills (advantageous)
- The ability to get a car driving licence and a PCV licence (to drive buses to where they need to be fixed)
- Good communication skills – written and verbal
- Be a team player
- Have a strong work ethic
- Be able to think on your feet and work through solutions to solving problems
- Be flexible and adaptable
- Be motivated and eager to do a good job
- Possess 5 GCSEs or equivalent which must incl. Maths, English and a Science subject with a minimum pass of Grade C

As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
Over the past few months we have been working with TfL, conducting Accessibility Awareness forums at our garages.
Doing the right thing, one of our four brand values, is what we have been doing for the last six years by encouraging all of our employees to give to their favourite charities through our Payroll Giving scheme - during this time, they have given more than £1,000,000 pounds to over 160 charities.
Going to school is something we all had to do, but going to school with a red London double-decker bus, and letting four classes from year one come on board to ask questions about the bus, is a privilege we experienced this week at Newbury Park Primary School in North East London.
Last June, Arriva London was delighted to have been re-awarded the TfL contract to run route W6 (Edmonton Green – Southgate Station) for a further five years, starting in January 2018 with brand new buses.
As the festive season approaches, we all look forward to the good-will of giving and receiving, and this was truly illustrated last week when members of our staff made a tour of London, on our open top bus, to meet representatives of some of their charities they give to through their Payroll Giving and celebrate #GivingTuesday.
