Arriva London staff making wishes come true
Arriva London is always happy to try and accommodate our customers’ requirements, so we were delighted to receive this thank you note from ten-year-old Jeremy, following his visit with his parents to Arriva’s Grays garage yesterday.
“Dear Nik and Phil,
Thank you so much for giving up your time to show me around Grays bus garage. It was a fascinating and enjoyable visit. I am now very happy to be the proud owner of bus blinds from my local route - and lots of other Arriva goodies! Everybody was very kind and generous.
I particularly enjoyed sitting in the driving seat of a Gemini 2 and inspecting underneath an ALX 400. Please say thanks to Billy for explaining how he helps keep the buses on the road. The more I found out, the more I thought that a career in the bus industry is for me. After today, I have told my family and friends about the brilliant time I had at Arriva Grays: you have a new ambassador!

Jeremy, a big transport and bus enthusiast, contacted Arriva London recently enquiring if we had any old sets of bus blinds for his favourite route 346.
Fortunately, Phil Dodds, the staff manager, found an old set of yellow on black blinds that were no longer in use and had not been disposed of, and invited Jeremy and his parents along to present the set to him, and give them a tour of the garage.
The engineering team were keen to show Jeremy what it takes to keep the buses on the road and, after the presentation, Jeremy had the opportunity of sitting in a bus cab and then seeing all of the other areas of the garage.
Service 346 is operated from Grays garage six days a week (Monday – Saturday) from Upminster Rail Station to Upminster Park Estate before operating in a one way loop round the estate, before returning to Upminster. A journey from Upminster to the Estate takes approximately ten minutes.
The service has been operated by Grays garage for many years. Although one of the shortest London Bus Routes, the service is affectionately known as the Magic Roundabout by the staff at Grays.
We wish Jeremy and his family all the best for the future, and look forward to seeing them again on our buses around Grays.

As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
Over the past few months we have been working with TfL, conducting Accessibility Awareness forums at our garages.
Doing the right thing, one of our four brand values, is what we have been doing for the last six years by encouraging all of our employees to give to their favourite charities through our Payroll Giving scheme - during this time, they have given more than £1,000,000 pounds to over 160 charities.
Going to school is something we all had to do, but going to school with a red London double-decker bus, and letting four classes from year one come on board to ask questions about the bus, is a privilege we experienced this week at Newbury Park Primary School in North East London.
Last June, Arriva London was delighted to have been re-awarded the TfL contract to run route W6 (Edmonton Green – Southgate Station) for a further five years, starting in January 2018 with brand new buses.
As the festive season approaches, we all look forward to the good-will of giving and receiving, and this was truly illustrated last week when members of our staff made a tour of London, on our open top bus, to meet representatives of some of their charities they give to through their Payroll Giving and celebrate #GivingTuesday.
