Arriva London women bus drivers get on their bikes for cancer charities
At Arriva London we are always proud and amazed at the generosity and enthusiasm of our staff to get involved and give to charity, and none more so than three of our bus drivers, who recently completed a 100 kilometre cycle ride for three cancer charities.
The three ladies, Sarah Hayter a driver from Wood Green garage and Cally Whittaker and Sarah Ward, both drivers at Arriva London’s Palmers Green garage, decided to team up for the all lady’s exclusive women v cancer ‘Ride the Night’ bike ride, the UK’s one and only women night cycle through London.
The three London drivers cycled an incredible 100Km each, to raise money for their three cancer charities. The tenacious trio started their journey at Windsor Racecourse at 9pm and cycled to London and back again to Windsor in around eight hours, raising more than £600 for Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.
Sarah Ward said: “It was such an incredible atmosphere. We did a lot of training and even though it was tough at times, it was worth it!”
Cally said: “I had never cycled seriously before but I wanted to combine a challenge with raising money for three great charities.”
Sarah Hayter said: “This is the second year I have taken part in the event and would recommend it to everyone.Seeing the sights of London at night is spectacular and to know you are raising money for such good causes makes it all the more special.”

Route 175 operates with 16 double-deck vehicles from our Barking garage, with a twelve-minute frequency during the day. Route 103 operates from our Grays garage with 14 buses, with an eight-minute daytime frequency.
Preparations are complete for our display entry in this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday. The Arriva London theme again this year is to celebrate the enormous contribution our staff make to charities through the Payroll Giving scheme. With over 1,000 staff supporting over 160 charities every week, and over £1,000,000 having been given in the last five years.
The buses, which were recently on display on the South Bank opposite the Houses of Parliament, will be seen throughout London and the City until November 12th, as a mark of respect for the sacrifices made by London’s service men and women, past and present.
Arriva London are proud, once again, to be the providers of the mode of transport to deliver London’s most original gastronomic road trip - the London restaurant festival’s Champagne Gourmet Odyssey.
Last week, Arriva London were invited to take part in the Older People’s Celebration Week across Barking and Dagenham.
