November the 12th will see Arriva London double its presence in the Lord Mayor’s Show
At this time of year many children and much of the media are counting down to Christmas, but at Arriva London the festive season can wait awhile, as we count down to the 12th of November and this year’s Lord Mayor’s show.
Since 1215 every newly-elected Lord Mayor has been required to travel through the winding medieval streets of the City of London to Westminster to swear loyalty to the Crown. Over the centuries this journey has become a much loved fixture in the national cultural calendar, with hundreds of thousands of people lining the streets and millions more watching the 6,500-strong procession on TV. This is the Lord Mayor’s Show.
For the last few years we have been enjoying taking part in the Show to illustrate the wonderful work our staff undertake in giving to charity through our Payroll Giving scheme.
Each year our Heritage fleet open top Routemaster RMC 1464 has been entered in the parade, proudly supported by staff marching in the parade, all of whom are Payroll givers.
This year will be no exception, and in fact we will have a much larger presence in the parade, with the introduction of our Platinum Payroll Giving bus HV64 to accompany RMC 1464. The bus has been painted Platinum specifically to celebrate being awarded the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) Payroll Giving Platinum Quality Mark, for having over 1,000 staff giving to over 160 charities each and every pay day.
Preparations are well underway with the various celebratory messages on both of the buses, and each of our eighty staff who will accompany the buses, will be dressed in matching caps and jackets presenting the Payroll Giving message.
Every Arriva London participant will have been invited to take part, having had their names drawn from the 1,000 givers register. From the feedback of previous years, each of the participants will enjoy a fantastic day out, that they will be proud to have been a part of, and will never forget.
This year’s pageant includes 180 horses, 164 vehicles, including our buses, jazz bands, steam engines, fire engines, pea harvesters, sports cars, tractors, Blackpool Tower and a tank.
Why not put the date in your diary and come along with friends and family to celebrate with us? You’ll see an historic parade, and eighty wonderfully generous Arriva London staff who give to their chosen charities every pay day. You’ll also have an unforgettable day out, so come along and say hello, we look forward to seeing you all.

Sound investment is the key to success for any business, and for Arriva London much of that success is generated by our investment in quality Engineering training.
We are extremely proud to announce that, for the second year running, through the continued generosity of our staff, we have been awarded the prestigious Charity Aids Foundation Payroll Giving Platinum Award.
We train our drivers in all aspects of customer service, and as we often hear from our passengers, our staff go above and beyond the call of duty to help, be it someone with mobility difficulties or maybe someone who is looking for directions.
If you want to transport a party of people to a special destination to help them celebrate a great occasion, you could do no better than hiring an Arriva Heritage fleet historic Routemaster.
The generosity of our staff is reflected in Arriva London receiving the prestigious Government’s Charity Aids Foundation Platinum Award last year, which means that over 20% of the staff give to charity through the company’s Payroll Giving scheme.
Arriva London supports local communities in many ways, so when asked to be involved in this project for yet another year, the decision was an easy one.
