Arriva London’s #GivingTuesday open top Heritage Fleet tour bus brings charities and givers together
There isn’t a better way to show your appreciation of someone’s care and giving, than to meet them face to face, and this is exactly what happened on #GivingTuesday, when representatives of many charities joined the Arriva London #GivingTuesday open top tour bus to meet and thank employees from Arriva London for their generosity in giving to their charities every single week, through Payroll Giving.
The charities attending included WaterAid, Diabetes UK, Breast Cancer Now, Centrepoint and Cancer Research UK.
Each charity representative had their own message to tell, but all were there to explain some of their work, but, more rewardingly for the givers, to thank them for their contributions.
Callum from Diabetes UK said:-
“We’ve had loyal employees from Arriva London giving to us, and they’ve helped fund a range of products. The money goes a long way in helping to run such things as the care-line. I want to say a really big thank you to everyone at Arriva London for helping to change the lives of so many people.”
Rose and Holly from Breast Cancer Now thanked Arriva London staff:-
“Nearly 1,000 women in the UK die from breast cancer every month. With these contributions coming in every month, this really helps us to forward plan our research so that we can reach our goal of no women dying of breast cancer in the future. We want to thank the Payroll Givers from Arriva London who give to our cause every week and make this research possible.”
Robert representing Centrepoint told us what it means to them:-
“Centrepoint is a charity that supports people living in homelessness aged 16 to 25. We’d like to thank every Arriva London employee who gives to Centrepoint through their Payroll Giving. We know that 150,000 young people are at risk of homelessness this year, and everything given helps to support them on a path to independence.”
The success of the day was not only due to the number of charities that attended, but also because of the overall goodwill that came from the day.
Nik Partou, Arriva London’s Communication Support manager, was full of praise for the way the relationship between givers and the charities is enhanced and said:-
“In the last twelve months we have encouraged more staff to join the Payroll Giving scheme, so much so that this year we were extremely proud to receive the Platinum Award from the Charity Aid Foundation for our staffs’ generosity. Days like these give us the opportunity to hear how much Arriva London staffs’ Payroll Giving generosity is appreciated by the charities, meaning we have much better information to encourage more staff to join the scheme. Thanks to everyone for their great support.”
For 2017, Arriva London will be encouraging everyone in the business to contribute through the Payroll Giving scheme so that in a year’s time, we can be celebrating even greater Payroll Giving success, and even greater contributions to these charities.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Michelle Salter and Donna Prendergast from the Sickle Cell Society to our Brixton garage, to meet with some of the givers and also record a few words about what the Payroll Givers' generosity means to their charity.
We have the ambition to become the mobility partner of choice, preferred by our passengers, partners and clients. Having a diverse, talented and motivated workforce is key to achieving that ambition.
We are always looking at ways to improve our green credentials and a recent initiative, part of our Destination Green programme across the business, at our North London Palmers Green garage is another illustration of this process.
Last summer, we were delighted to be awarded the contract from TfL to operate route W4 running from Oakthorpe Park Estate to Tottenham Ferry Lane estate, operating from Wood Green garage.
As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
Over the past few months we have been working with TfL, conducting Accessibility Awareness forums at our garages.
