Arriva London begin operating route 19 from Finsbury Park to Battersea
When travelling on public transport, it’s natural to expect great customer service, a smooth ride and a good journey, delivered on time. This is what we at Arriva London strive for across all our routes, and when we are in the fortunate position of adding more routes to our service, we need to pay even greater attention to their introduction.
Our recent route gains in North London include route 19, from Finsbury Park to Battersea Bridge (South Side), which has meant implementing an extensive mobilisation programme to maintain these high standards.
To operate the route, twenty-six new Hybrid friendly buses have joined the fleet, requiring over eighty drivers. Some drivers have come from the previous operator, but many have required route learning, and all of them type training, to get accustomed to the new vehicles.
The new buses are proving a big success with passengers and drivers, as route 19 driver James explains:
"It’s an absolute pleasure to drive. We have had some of the newest Hybrid buses put on the route; everything is very smooth. It’s been absolutely lovely so far."
James was one of the Arriva drivers who transferred to route 19 from another Arriva London route, but some of the drivers like Harold, who came across with the route from the previous operator, had this to say:
"The main reason I came back to Arriva is I could do early duties and, secondly, I really love the route; I didn’t want to let it go. I have been driving it for many years. I love Arriva, it was like coming back home."

Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet assists The Royal Hospital Chelsea to mark their National Care Home Open Day
The Royal Hospital Chelsea recently celebrated National Care Home Open Day 2018 by opening the doors to its dedicated care facility and welcoming supporters and visitors to the event.
Last week, we were delighted to welcome Michelle Salter and Donna Prendergast from the Sickle Cell Society to our Brixton garage, to meet with some of the givers and also record a few words about what the Payroll Givers' generosity means to their charity.
We have the ambition to become the mobility partner of choice, preferred by our passengers, partners and clients. Having a diverse, talented and motivated workforce is key to achieving that ambition.
We are always looking at ways to improve our green credentials and a recent initiative, part of our Destination Green programme across the business, at our North London Palmers Green garage is another illustration of this process.
Last summer, we were delighted to be awarded the contract from TfL to operate route W4 running from Oakthorpe Park Estate to Tottenham Ferry Lane estate, operating from Wood Green garage.
As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
