Arriva London’s Platinum Payroll Giving bus heads south
The generosity of our staff is reflected in Arriva London receiving the prestigious Government’s Charity Aids Foundation Platinum Award last year, which means that over 20% of the staff give to charity through the company’s Payroll Giving scheme. In real terms, over 1,000 staff give to over 160 charities through their pay, and this is why the award was given.
To celebrate this, the company painted HV 64, one of their in-service buses, platinum and then decorated it with many of the logos of the charities that the staff support.
The bus was then paraded in the Lord Mayor’s show last November and, following this, run in service in North London on route 141 to celebrate what had been achieved.
As the staff generosity is from garages all over London, it seemed appropriate to share the celebration message, and as of last week, HV 64 can now be seen running on services operating from Brixton garage, such as route 319, between Streatham Hill and Sloane Square.
The recent large mobilisation programme we have undertaken, which has subsequently increased our driving staff by over 600, has also meant that more staff are now joining the Payroll Giving scheme, and it is hoped that we will maintain our Platinum status again in 2017.
The campaign theme ‘It’s easy to give with Payroll Giving, your colleagues do it every day’ which helped win the award, is being promoted through regular road shows at each of our London garages, together with a poster and video campaign, telling givers’ stories and responses from the charities that are the recipients.
All participants in the scheme enter a company quarterly draw which gives four winners each a cheque from Arriva London for £250 for their chosen charity.
All givers are also entered into a ballot, giving them the chance to be one of the participants in Arriva London’s Lord Mayor’s Show entry, which this year will feature the Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet open top Routemaster RMC 1464.

Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet assists The Royal Hospital Chelsea to mark their National Care Home Open Day
The Royal Hospital Chelsea recently celebrated National Care Home Open Day 2018 by opening the doors to its dedicated care facility and welcoming supporters and visitors to the event.
Last week, we were delighted to welcome Michelle Salter and Donna Prendergast from the Sickle Cell Society to our Brixton garage, to meet with some of the givers and also record a few words about what the Payroll Givers' generosity means to their charity.
We have the ambition to become the mobility partner of choice, preferred by our passengers, partners and clients. Having a diverse, talented and motivated workforce is key to achieving that ambition.
We are always looking at ways to improve our green credentials and a recent initiative, part of our Destination Green programme across the business, at our North London Palmers Green garage is another illustration of this process.
Last summer, we were delighted to be awarded the contract from TfL to operate route W4 running from Oakthorpe Park Estate to Tottenham Ferry Lane estate, operating from Wood Green garage.
As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
