Arriva London driver puts safety first at London Bridge incident
We train our drivers in all aspects of customer service, and as we often hear from our passengers, our staff go above and beyond the call of duty to help, be it someone with mobility difficulties or maybe someone who is looking for directions.
The recent tragedy at London Bridge has identified many people, including bus drivers, who did exceptional things that night. Included in these is Seth, one of our drivers on route 133, who having heard a large bang and saw the actions of the assailants, opened the doors of his bus and shouted for people to jump on so that he could get them away from danger. This he repeated as he drove away, and managed to deliver everyone safely to their destination on his way to Streatham.
He didn’t mention his heroic actions, but the story surfaced when one of the customers he had assisted, who was waiting at a bus stop at London Bridge Station and was unaware that a terrorist attack was occurring, contacted us to commend Seth for his actions and to enquire about his well-being and wanted to make sure he was being given support, stating Seth had looked visibly distressed at the time.
The customer reported that the driver had stopped the bus and began shouting at everyone to get on the bus immediately, as did other passengers on the bus.
He subsequently boarded the bus, and the driver then continually stopped and tried to pick people up from the street to get them away to safety.
The customer believes the driver must have witnessed what happened as he seemed very distraught and frightened. The customer eventually exited the bus at Brixton.
The customer was concerned for Seth’s welfare and wanted us to pass on his thanks and for him to be recognised for his actions in trying to get people to safety.
We are extremely proud of Seth’s actions, and are in the process of defining the most appropriate way to reward him for his brave and exemplary conduct. Arriva London will be making a donation to the Red Cross Saturday Night for London fund to help victims of attacks.

As the festive season approaches, we all look forward to the good-will of giving and receiving, and this was truly illustrated last week when members of our staff made a tour of London, on our open top bus, to meet representatives of some of their charities they give to through their Payroll Giving and celebrate #GivingTuesday.

Arriva London collected three prestigious awards at the UK Bus Awards held at the historic Troxy cinema venue in Limehouse, East London.
This year’s Lord Mayor’s Show, on 11th November, was an amazing cause for celebration, not only to welcome in the new Lord Mayor, but also to celebrate another year of Platinum giving by our wonderfully generous Payroll Givers.
Route 175 operates with 16 double-deck vehicles from our Barking garage, with a twelve-minute frequency during the day. Route 103 operates from our Grays garage with 14 buses, with an eight-minute daytime frequency.
Preparations are complete for our display entry in this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday. The Arriva London theme again this year is to celebrate the enormous contribution our staff make to charities through the Payroll Giving scheme. With over 1,000 staff supporting over 160 charities every week, and over £1,000,000 having been given in the last five years.
