Arriva London wins Payroll Giving Platinum Award two years running
We are extremely proud to announce that, for the second year running, through the continued generosity of our staff, we have been awarded the prestigious Charity Aids Foundation Payroll Giving Platinum Award.
To receive this award, companies are required to demonstrate their continued commitment to Payroll Giving by encouraging staff to give through their payroll, and to have at least 20% of their staff contributing throughout the year.
As we mentioned in an earlier story this month, our Platinum bus, painted this colour to celebrate the same achievement last year, has moved from our Palmers Green garage in north London where it operated on route 141, to our Brixton garage, and can now be seen on various routes in the south and central London areas.
The bus, decorated with many logos of the charities our staff support, will soon be having an upgrade to show the 2017 Payroll Giving Award logo. So, if you see it out and about, give us a toot and maybe take a selfie by it and post it on social media.
The Platinum bus advertising points out that over 1,000 of our staff give to over 160 different charities through their pay each and every week, and we are continually striving to encourage more of our staff to do just that, to maintain this standard.
Our campaign theme, ‘It’s easy to give with Payroll Giving, your colleagues do it every day’, has been promoted through weekly road shows at each of the company’s London garages, together with a poster and video campaign telling givers’ stories and responses from the charities that are the recipients.
All participants in the scheme enter a company quarterly draw which gives four winners each a cheque from Arriva London for £250 for their chosen charity.
All givers are also entered into a ballot, giving them the chance to be one of the participants in Arriva London’s Lord Mayor’s Show entry, which this year will feature the Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet open-top Routemaster RMC 1464.

Last October, Arriva London was awarded the contract to run route 368 from Barking, Harts Lane Estate, to Wangey Road in Chadwell Heath, for five years starting from the 30th April 2016.
The M.A.D (Making a Difference) awards are an annual national event in Arriva’s calendar. The idea is to recognise members of staff that are passionate in what they do, and regularly go the extra mile to provide the best possible customer experience, whether an engineer, a member of the support staff or a driver.
Arriva London’s Dartford garage was recently the venue for a continuation of a TfL initiative, inviting disability awareness groups to Arriva London garages, for open discussions about the difficulties of travelling on London buses for people with disabilities.
A new idea to turn older diesel engine buses into much more environmentally friendly vehicles has been developed. The basic idea behind the unit, is that the old diesel unit that currently drives the wheels is removed, and a retrofit diesel/electric hybrid is fitted.
Arriva London is always happy to try and accommodate our customers’ requirements, so we were delighted to receive this thank you note from ten-year-old Jeremy, following his visit with his parents to Arriva’s Grays garage yesterday.
At Arriva London, we are always interested in unusual requests for the use of our fleet, and are regular suppliers of buses to accommodate rail replacement work. However, we are pleased to announce that we have been able to satisfy a more unusual request for the use of one of our Heritage Fleet buses as the temporary ticket office for a miniature railway station in Kent.
