Arriva London and the Metropolitan Police Lambeth Safety Transport Team (STT) which police the bus network, have joined forces in a new initiative to demonstrate to school children in the Lambeth area the safety and security benefits of CCTV systems fitted on Arriva London’s buses.

Arriva provided one of their New Routemaster buses at their Brixton Garage, for the STT Team to carry out a number of role-playing exercises, including examples of anti-social behaviour. The CCTV footage, in addition to other video filmed on the day will be provided to the STT Team, so that they can create their own training material.

This will be shown in Lambeth schools, highlighting the quality and coverage of on-bus CCTV, with emphasis placed on how CCTV footage is used to deter anti-social behaviour on buses, and a means of identifying those who behave in such a manner.

Paul Bonny, Senior CCTV Analyst at Arriva London said:

“We have built strong links with the Met Police over a number of years, and it is always pleasing when we are chosen to assist with any new initiatives. The STT Team can open doors that we cannot always access, and being able to go into schools and demonstrate how on-bus CCTV is used to deter anti-social behaviour to the children will be of great value. There are over thirty London Boroughs with STT Teams, and it’s hoped that this initiative will be rolled out across them all, reaching schools wherever in London our buses operate”.

Sergeant Rob Wilkins of the Lambeth Safety Transport Team expressed his appreciation:

“I’d like to thank Arriva for the use of the bus and their facilities that have been used by the members of my team to film this video, without their help this would not have been possible. This can now be shown to school children to demonstrate the sort of material that we can see from the CCTV on the bus, and can help make for a better travelling experience for the kids and all other members of the public who use the buses”.
