Arriva London celebrates at the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards
Arriva London scooped three awards at the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards held in November. The awards showcase and reward the best examples of UK employers’ commitment to Payroll Giving. This year, Arriva London entered three categories and were delighted to win the coveted Gold Award in two, and be Highly Commended in a third.
The two Golds came in the categories 'The Most Innovative Campaign - Large Employer' and 'The Most Successful Sustained Scheme – Large Employer'; the Highly Commended was awarded in the 'Best Promotional Partnership – Large Employer' category.
To collect the awards on behalf of the company were Nik Partou, our Communication Support Manager, and two of our Payroll Givers, driver Stephanie and driving instructor Neil.
Our campaign theme 'It's easy to give with Payroll Giving, your colleagues do it every day' has been promoted through weekly road shows at each of the company’s London garages, together with a poster and video campaign telling givers’ stories and responses from the charities that are the recipients.
All participants in the scheme enter a company quarterly draw which gives four winners each a cheque from Arriva London for £250 for their chosen charity, and all givers are also entered into a ballot giving them the chance to be one of the participants in Arriva London’s Lord Mayor’s Show entry.
In the last two years, we are also very proud to have been awarded the Charity Aids Foundation’s Platinum Award for having over twenty percent of our staff contributing to charities through Payroll Giving.
At this year’s awards, it was announced that in this, the 30th year of Payroll Giving, there will be a new 'Diamond' Award for companies who achieve thirty percent of their staff involved with giving in this manner. Our Commercial Director, Peter Batty, said:
"This will be our new goal moving forward. We are delighted to have won these awards and are continuing to develop the campaign. Achieving these top awards for Most Innovative Campaign and Most Successful Sustained Scheme is something we are very proud of, and provides a platform for us to encourage more of our staff to start giving through the Payroll Giving system, providing sustainable income for hundreds of charities in the future."

The famous Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, which has a station at Dungeness, has been using Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet RML 2360 Routemaster bus as a temporary ticket office and shop.
Youth Travel Ambassadors is a London-wide programme delivered in partnership with borough councils and Transport for London to increase active travel, improve behaviour and increase safety for the 11-18 age group.
This weekend’s service was run on former route 95 from Cannon Street to Tooting Broadway and back, passing Arriva’s Brixton garage, by five RTW’s including the very last ever RTW to run in commercial service, RTW 467.
In line with other Arriva London garages across London who hold travel training days for people with disabilities, Brixton garage in South London held its first Travel training day last week.
Last October, Arriva London was awarded the contract to run route 368 from Barking, Harts Lane Estate, to Wangey Road in Chadwell Heath, for five years starting from the 30th April 2016.
The M.A.D (Making a Difference) awards are an annual national event in Arriva’s calendar. The idea is to recognise members of staff that are passionate in what they do, and regularly go the extra mile to provide the best possible customer experience, whether an engineer, a member of the support staff or a driver.
