Arriva London retains route W6 and introduces nine new buses
Last June, Arriva London was delighted to have been re-awarded the TfL contract to run route W6 (Edmonton Green – Southgate Station) for a further five years, starting in January 2018 with brand new buses.
The W6 service operates with nine buses from our Enfield garage, and although the new buses are not required on the route until the New Year, we are pleased to have introduced them earlier to improve the customer experience.
More than twenty drivers are required to operate the route and to see what our drivers feel about the new buses, we went out and spoke to a couple of them about their new experience, including driver Hasan who has been with the company for five months. He explained how the drivers are enjoying the new buses and how comfortable they are for both themselves and the passengers; he said:
"These buses are with new technology - with the stop and start system - which helps the environment. There’s a lot of space and they’re very comfortable for the passengers and the drivers. The cab layout is very good for the driver and the buses kneel, not just from the front but from the back as well, to help pushchairs to come on more safely. Overall, a very good bus."
Ender, one of Hasan’s colleagues, said:
"There are very good comments from the passengers about the new W6 buses, and when they leave the bus they say ‘Thank you driver’, which tells me that they enjoyed their journey."

Vintage bus parade at Victoria Bus Station to mark the 70th anniversary of the first post-war RT bus features an Arriva route
To mark the 70th anniversary of the first post-war RT bus, there was a parade of vintage buses at Victoria Bus Station on Wednesday morning.
The visit had been organised following Leon meeting Enfield bus driver Malkiat Birdi, whilst he was attending the TfL initiative for drivers called Hello London.
Making the capital’s buses as simple to use as the London Underground is a new initiative being trialled on seven London bus routes, including Arriva London routes 150 and 128.
In association with TfL and HCT Transport, we opened our doors to welcome the public, giving them the opportunity to explore the garage, meet our operations teams, ride on a bus through the bus wash, tour our operations control centres and see & ride on some historic preserved buses.
Our recent route gains in North London include route 19, from Finsbury Park to Battersea Bridge (South Side), which has meant implementing an extensive mobilisation programme to maintain our high standards.
One of the most important elements in Arriva London’s development is the training and education it offers its staff, from engineering apprentices to graduate trainees, everyone in the business is offered the opportunity to develop and flourish.
