Arriva London staff just keep on giving
Every year, Arriva London’s staff show their massive generosity through their continued charitable giving. The company runs a Payroll Giving scheme which encourages staff to easily give to any charity they choose through their payroll, for as little as one pound a week; this is also tax efficient for both the employee and the charities.
2016 is no exception, and with this in mind, Arriva London have launched a new campaign to promote Payroll Giving to those staff who are unaware of the scheme.
The campaign theme is ‘It’s easy to give with Payroll Giving; your colleagues do it every day!’. It’s being promoted through weekly road shows at each of the company’s thirteen London garages, together with a poster and video campaign which tells givers’ stories and also has responses from the charities that are the recipients.
The company currently holds a gold award for its staffs’ Payroll Giving generosity in 2015, and is looking to boost that to a platinum level for 2016.
With many more staff signing up each week, Arriva London is the largest bus operator in London to have achieved the gold quality mark.
All participants in the scheme are entered into a company quarterly draw which gives four winners each a cheque from Arriva London for £250 for their chosen charity.
All givers are also entered into a ballot which gives them the chance to be one of forty participants in Arriva London’s 2016 Lord Mayor’s Show entry on November 12th.
The beauty of the scheme is that the staff can choose exactly who they give to, and how much they give, and with such a diverse workforce it means that over 120 charities benefit, from well-known national or international ones to very local causes.

“I think Payroll Giving is a wonderful idea; if I can help vulnerable children, it’s the best thing I can do. My money goes to Sierra Leone, for children under five, and the great thing about Payroll Giving is I can make that choice”.

As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
Over the past few months we have been working with TfL, conducting Accessibility Awareness forums at our garages.
Doing the right thing, one of our four brand values, is what we have been doing for the last six years by encouraging all of our employees to give to their favourite charities through our Payroll Giving scheme - during this time, they have given more than £1,000,000 pounds to over 160 charities.
Going to school is something we all had to do, but going to school with a red London double-decker bus, and letting four classes from year one come on board to ask questions about the bus, is a privilege we experienced this week at Newbury Park Primary School in North East London.
Last June, Arriva London was delighted to have been re-awarded the TfL contract to run route W6 (Edmonton Green – Southgate Station) for a further five years, starting in January 2018 with brand new buses.
As the festive season approaches, we all look forward to the good-will of giving and receiving, and this was truly illustrated last week when members of our staff made a tour of London, on our open top bus, to meet representatives of some of their charities they give to through their Payroll Giving and celebrate #GivingTuesday.
