Drivers donate cash-tray floats to Cancer Research UK

The introduction of cash-free buses inspired Wood Green drivers Andrew Vellosa and Len Jagroop to come up with a unique fundraising initiative.

The pair decided to ask drivers at all Arriva London garages to donate their final cash-tray floats to Cancer Research UK.

To collect the money, Andrew bought buckets which he painted, provided with lids, then put on display at all of the company’s 12 garages for the week leading up to the start of cash-free buses on July 6.

Andrew, who did the Shine Night Walk half marathon last year for Cancer Research and will be doing the full marathon at the end of September, has raised £544.65 with his most recent fund-raising endeavour.

“I just thought: the drivers don’t need their cash floats after July 5, so why not put the money in the buckets for Cancer Research? After all, everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer.”

Recently, Arriva London’s Brixton garage was the venue for a new initiative. In partnership with TfL, Arriva London invited a group from Lambeth’s People’s Rights Group to the garage for an open discussion about the challenges for some of our disabled customers when travelling on London’s buses.
