Going Gold with Payroll Giving
Arriva London has been awarded the Gold Payroll Giving Quality Mark this week as even more of the 5000 staff members signed up to Payroll Giving.
With such a diverse workforce it means that over 120 charities benefit, from well-known national or international ones to very local causes.
Payroll Giving has been re-launched in Arriva London this year and underpins its Year Of The Bus celebrations. The initiative encourages employees to give to their chosen charity direct from their payroll which is tax efficient for both employee and charity.
With many more staff signing up each week Arriva London is the largest operator in London to have achieved the gold quality mark.
Caroline Ward, People and Change Manager said: “We are all very proud to have achieved the gold standard, its testament to the hundreds of our staff who take the trouble to support causes close to their hearts. It highlights the importance Arriva London places on working closely with colleagues to support their activities in both the local and wider community.”
“A new online employee rewards portal has meant that it’s easier for staff to sign up and choose exactly where their money goes. So many people have a good cause to support, payroll giving makes it really simple and we pledge to continue to promote this hopefully achieving the platinum award in 2015.”
In addition to publicity and garage roadshows Arriva are holding quarterly draws where four members of staff using payroll giving are picked at random to earn an extra £250 for their chosen charity.
The year will end with an opportunity for a number of staff to promote their chosen charity on top of a bus in The Lord Mayor’s Show.

Youth Travel Ambassadors is a London-wide programme delivered in partnership with borough councils and Transport for London to increase active travel, improve behaviour and increase safety for the 11-18 age group.
This weekend’s service was run on former route 95 from Cannon Street to Tooting Broadway and back, passing Arriva’s Brixton garage, by five RTW’s including the very last ever RTW to run in commercial service, RTW 467.
In line with other Arriva London garages across London who hold travel training days for people with disabilities, Brixton garage in South London held its first Travel training day last week.
Last October, Arriva London was awarded the contract to run route 368 from Barking, Harts Lane Estate, to Wangey Road in Chadwell Heath, for five years starting from the 30th April 2016.
The M.A.D (Making a Difference) awards are an annual national event in Arriva’s calendar. The idea is to recognise members of staff that are passionate in what they do, and regularly go the extra mile to provide the best possible customer experience, whether an engineer, a member of the support staff or a driver.
Arriva London’s Dartford garage was recently the venue for a continuation of a TfL initiative, inviting disability awareness groups to Arriva London garages, for open discussions about the difficulties of travelling on London buses for people with disabilities.
