It’s brand new maintenance pits for Arriva London
We are always looking at ways of developing better methods of serving our customers and helping our staff to do their jobs effectively. A most important part of this is to ensure that all of our buses are fully serviceable and ready at all times to go out on the route.
With this in mind the company has initiated an investment programme to improve engineering facilities, starting with upgrading the vehicle maintenance pits in both Tottenham and Stamford Hill garages in North London.
The upgrade has been carried out over several months as it can be a major upheaval for the garages while day to day operations carry on. The work involves removing the old concrete pits and replacing them with steel pre-fabricated versions. The pits are deeper than the older versions, which were installed when the garages were built over fifty years ago, and were designed for the higher floor, step access buses of the time.
Apart from providing more space to work, the new pits are better illuminated and with the steel side walls painted gloss white, give much better reflective surfaces that are also far easier to maintain. They have also been extended to accommodate the increased length of the New Routemaster buses now in service on routes 73 and 149.
The transition has meant that the garages have had to share their servicing work with Arriva London’s Engineering facility at Edmonton, but as Charlotte Whitfield, the General Manager for Tottenham and Stamford Hill, said:-
“Thanks to all of our staff and our colleagues’ cooperation, the transition has run really smoothly and none of the routes served by these garages have been effected by the change. We are very proud of our new engineering facilities and look forward to the improvements they will bring to service delivery in London”

Arriva London’s Watford Garston garage is proud to have retained one of its most important routes, route 340.
Arriva London is delighted to announce the retention of route 377 from TfL, which runs from Oakwood Station to Ponders End at Enfield
It is not an easy task to design artwork for a bus over 11m long, over 4m high and 2.5m wide, but there were approximately 538 entries from several Primary schools! The sheer number and standard of entries was overwhelming!
The London Bus Awards gives TfL and bus operators the opportunity to recognise the commitment demonstrated on a daily basis from drivers, support teams and frontline TfL staff. The London bus network would not be the same without people of such a high calibre as those nominated for the awards.
Our open-top Heritage Fleet Routemaster, RMC 1464, held pride of place as part of Eldon Primary School’s celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday.
