Kids’ winning design wrapped around Arriva London bus as part of Transported by Design festival
As Tier-One sponsor of ‘Transported by Design’, an 18-month programme launched by Transport for London (TfL) and London Transport Museum (LTM) to celebrate the role of good transport design in London, Exterion Media launched a competition for all primary schools across London.
All children in school years 3-6 were invited to create a colourful and striking design for one of Exterion Media’s iconic wrapped buses. The design needed to reflect their local places and landmarks, using coloured pencils, felt-tips, paint or collage.
It is not an easy task to design artwork for a bus over 11m long, over 4m high and 2.5m wide, but there were approximately 538 entries from several Primary schools! The sheer number and standard of entries was overwhelming!
The overall winner was Sehba Basra from Dr Triplett’s Church of England Primary School in Hayes.
Sehba’s design featured highlights from her local town of Hillingdon, including its multicultural nature and caring community spirit. The judges felt that Sehba’s design was “an outstanding interpretation of the competition theme; a brilliant representation of her local area, using a colourful and creative mix of design tools”.
Sehba’s design appeared on Arriva London’s New Routemaster bus LT230 at the Transported by Design festival on Regent Street, at the beginning of July, and can now be seen on the streets of London on route 38 for a limited time.
The bus recently visited Sebha’s school to join in the celebrations of her success. Arriva London would like to congratulate Sehba on winning the competition and are proud to display her design on one of our vehicles. Keep your eyes peeled and see if you can spot the bus!

Recently, Arriva London’s Brixton garage was the venue for a new initiative. In partnership with TfL, Arriva London invited a group from Lambeth’s People’s Rights Group to the garage for an open discussion about the challenges for some of our disabled customers when travelling on London’s buses.
In support of this year’s Poppy Appeal a number of Transport for London vehicles including two Arriva London buses, have been covered in poppies.
The complete wrap of the buses transforms them from their London iconic red, to fantastic moving advertising spaces, ideal for announcing such a phenomenon to the London audience.
Arriva graduates go places. Our fast-track schemes in General and Engineering Management are available within Arriva London, our UK Bus division, UK Trains as well as in mainland Europe.
Since the introduction of the first New Routemaster buses on its route 38 in February 2012, Arriva London has been preparing for many more to appear on other routes it operates.
