Payroll Giving Arriva London staff celebrate in the 2017 Lord Mayor’s Show
This year’s Lord Mayor’s Show, on 11th November, was an amazing cause for celebration, not only to welcome in the new Lord Mayor, but also to celebrate another year of Platinum giving by our wonderfully generous Payroll Givers. Each and every week, over 1,000 of our staff give to more than 160 charities through our Payroll Giving scheme. To date, they have contributed over £1,000,000 to their chosen charities.
To recognise this achievement, Arriva London invited 40 of these generous givers to march in the Lord Mayor’s Show, accompanying our historic open top Routemaster, RMC 1464. The names of all the Payroll Givers were entered into a draw and the first 40 invited to join the show.
The bus, decorated with balloons and panels giving details of some of the Payroll Givers and the reasons they give, escorted the staff along the route as they distributed gifts to the crowds.
We also asked several of the charities that receive these donations to accompany us in the parade and were delighted that Stormy Stan from the RNLI, Bernard Bear from Great Ormond Street Hospital and dogs & representatives from the Dogs Trust were able to join us.
This is the fourth year we have participated in the show, and our Payroll Givers who attended both this year and in the past were delighted with the experience. As Helen, who’s a giver to both a cancer charity and the Dogs Trust, said:
"Giving to charities through Payroll Giving is very rewarding, and having the opportunity to be part of this fantastic show is just incredible. But the lovely thing for me was meeting the people from the Dogs Trust who bought a little dog called Geoff, who needs a home, along with them. The parade was fantastic to be a part of, and I was really surprised how many people came out to see it."
Our Commercial Director Peter Batty, who was there to support the staff, said:
"The Lord Mayor’s Show is a great way to celebrate the amazing charitable support our staff provide through Payroll Giving, and to see them here with their families and friends demonstrates the great community spirit they bring to both their lives and their work, and I am immensely proud of them."

Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet assists The Royal Hospital Chelsea to mark their National Care Home Open Day
The Royal Hospital Chelsea recently celebrated National Care Home Open Day 2018 by opening the doors to its dedicated care facility and welcoming supporters and visitors to the event.
Last week, we were delighted to welcome Michelle Salter and Donna Prendergast from the Sickle Cell Society to our Brixton garage, to meet with some of the givers and also record a few words about what the Payroll Givers' generosity means to their charity.
We have the ambition to become the mobility partner of choice, preferred by our passengers, partners and clients. Having a diverse, talented and motivated workforce is key to achieving that ambition.
We are always looking at ways to improve our green credentials and a recent initiative, part of our Destination Green programme across the business, at our North London Palmers Green garage is another illustration of this process.
Last summer, we were delighted to be awarded the contract from TfL to operate route W4 running from Oakthorpe Park Estate to Tottenham Ferry Lane estate, operating from Wood Green garage.
As part of our commitment to developing our business, we invest heavily in training for all of our staff to offer the great customer experience. We also look at other ways in which we can develop our relationships with the communities we serve, and allow them the opportunity of learning about our processes and to meet some of the team.
