Tony Ward joins Arriva London
A new challenge has begun for Tony Ward following his appointment to engineering director at Arriva London.
Tony replaces Ian Tarran, who has been promoted to the new role of engineering director for Arriva UK Bus.
Tony has enjoyed the last nine years as engineering director for Arriva Southern Counties, but is looking forward to managing a bigger fleet with larger garages and all the associated issues that go with it.
“From an engineering point of view, this role is something I’ve always aspired to. I’ve had many good years at Arriva Southern Counties, but running a fleet of 1,600 vehicles at Arriva London is an exciting proposition.
When the opportunity came up I was delighted to take it,” said Tony, who first joined the bus industry in 1979 as an apprentice mechanic at Fox County (now Arriva Midlands).
One stark difference between Arriva London and Arriva Southern Counties is the completely different operating environments. Arriva Southern Counties mainly runs a commercial operation, but, in the capital, Arriva operates under contract to Transport for London.
“This brings a whole new set of challenges for the engineering team so my first few weeks will involve getting to know the employees and the business, as well as understanding the standards set by Transport for London.
“I’m taking over a company that has been looked after extremely well by Ian Tarran and I hope I can help build on the company’s success,” said Tony.
