Lou retires after over 48 years on the tools

Lou Mortimer on his retirementLou Mortimer on his retirementLou Mortimer has put away his workday tools and swapped them for a new computer and web cam.

Clarence Louis (‘Lou’) Mortimer retired as a bus mechanic at Enfield garage last month (February) and plans to spend more time with his son and daughter who live in the United States.

And that’s where the web cam comes in because until he visits them in person he can contact them electronically.

Lou’s career began in 1961 at Holloway as a London Transport garage trainee. Shortly afterwards he transferred to Enfield. Following a short spell at Muswell Hill in the mid 1960s he returned to Enfield and joined the running shift where he remained for 43 years until his retirement.Mr & Mrs MortimerMr & Mrs Mortimer

Lou was presented with a laptop computer, vouchers and a bell push from a Routemaster with money raised by his colleagues.
