Snow Joke!
London saw snow on Tuesday evening (28th) for the first time in October since 1934, causing problems for some of Arriva London’s bus routes.
The worst of the snow was in the out lying areas to the north of London where 3 routes had to be terminated short of their usual destination.
From about 9pm routes 313 and 298 were curtailed short of Potters Bar due to the dangerous road conditions caused by heavy snow and ice. Route 313 curtailed short at Junc 24 of the M25 roundabout and route 298 was curtailed at Cockfosters.
Route 184 was initially diverted en route to Chesterfield Road from Barnet Church but as the road conditions deteriorated the service was curtailed into Barnet Church.
Operating manager for route control, Mick Gillroy said: “A number of route controllers attended the locations to take control of the situation and ensure that our passengers and drivers were not put at risk. They also helped to keep everyone informed of the situation”.
The Arriva London routes in central and south London faired better with minimal disruption.
