Arriva Buses in Lord Mayor's Show

Despite the rain thousands of onlookers lined the streets of the City of London to watch this years Lord Mayor's Show.

More than 6,000 performers and over 200 vehicles took part in the spectacle, which included three buses from Arriva.

The first was an iconic open top London Routemaster from the Arriva Heritage Fleet which paraded a group from The City of London Family and Young People's Service.

They deliver informal education and self development opportunities in the City, including holiday programmes, after-school and youth clubs. The group was conveying a theme of 'The City on Holiday' transforming formal city suits into vibrant, colourful costumes, bringing the spirit of summer to the show'. Their costumes were all made out of recycled materials as were the drums and the large Griffin sculpture that led the Routemaster through the parade.

The second bus from Arriva in the parade was London’s first Hybrid Double Deck bus currently being trialled on route 141, representing Transport for London.

The trial bus is typical of other hybrid buses operating in London using a combination of diesel and electric power; it will contribute to cutting emissions by up to 40% compared with standard double deckers.

The third bus from Arriva was an open top bus from The Original Tour. The bus was used for the second year running by The Modern Livery Companies and in spite of the rain the whole event was a great success.
