Arriva delivers young bus enthusiast an early Christmas treat
Nine-year-old bus enthusiast Didi Wogu, from Enfield, was given the present of a lifetime thanks to his local bus company Arriva London.
In a letter to the company the St James’ school pupil, who has autism, told the company of his great passion for anything and everything relating to buses. As well as memorising a list of Arriva bus routes he had also spent time designing some ideas for his own routes.
Recognising his efforts the company replied inviting him and his dad Uche, who also shares Didi’s interest, to an extra special pre-Christmas visit to one of the company’s largest bus garages at Wood Green on Thursday (18 December).
Staff at the garage gave the youngster a personal tour of the latest buses along with the engineering workshop at the garage, which is next to the company’s headquarters.
Mark Yexley, managing director of Arriva London, said: “We were really impressed by Didi’s knowledge of our routes and operations, so thought it would be a great Christmas present to offer him a tour around a working bus garage.
“It’s not something we can do everyday, but Didi’s enthusiasm and love for buses really caught our attention and we were able to make arrangements to be able to offer him and his dad this special treat. It was a real pleasure to have him join us and we hope he continues his passion for Arriva’s buses.”
During his visit Didi got the opportunity to sit in the cab of a bus and particularly enjoyed changing the destination blinds on the school buses.
As well as spending time seeing the facilities and the buses Arriva presented Didi with his very own stocking of goodies, including Arriva memorabilia fit for the very best enthusiast.
