RM 5 takes centre stage
Recently restored to near original condition, RM5 made its first public appearances this month (May) at the Historic Vehicle Society run to Brighton and Covent Garden Piazza.
RM5 left Crystal Palace at 7am in brilliant sunshine for its first long journey with its fully reconditioned AEC engine. The journey was faultless and RM5 was one of the first vehicles to park up in Madeira Drive on Brighton’s seafront and show off its new livery. The bus was well received and even picked up an award in its class.
Safely back in London the bus took centre stage on Covent Garden Piazza as part of Arriva’s exhibition at London Transport Museum, ‘The Restoration of a London Icon’
The exhibition shown over three days showed the full restoration process from start to finish. Also on show was a short sample of the restoration DVD screened hourly in the museums Cubic Theatre.
Nick Agnew, representing the Friends of The Museum said: “It was good to see the splendid end results – the exhibition, the video and of course RM5.”
